Ditching shampoo - follow up
It's been about a month since I'd ditched the shampoo bottles, and I'm happy to report that I seem to still have friends! Seriously, though, my hair looks fine. I generally wash it every other day, but occasionally (weekends) I'll go another day. Then it gets a bit on the greasy side, but I'd say that it looks like it did after 1 day with shampoo when I do that - so I'd call it a win.
My scalp has been a bit itchy lately, but I'd been focusing on putting the vinegar only on the tips of my hair. I think that might be the culprit. So I'm trying to use a more diluted solution of vinegar, but putting it on my scalp, too. That should neutralize any leftover residue from the baking soda. I don't think the itchiness is serious - there are no flakes. Actually, my scalp is in much better shape, as I used to have a build up (shampoo/conditioner, I imagine) that is long gone!
Did anyone else bite the bullet? How's it working for you? I've heard reports that people with thin and/or fine hair are having trouble. Any readers have tips for those gals?

One week without shampoo and doing great! I can usually go about 3 days before needing baking soda. My vinegar solution is half vinegar, half water with some essential oils in there (lavendar, eucalyptus, and rosemary) and no itching so far...
My husband actually said that my hair feels softer and that was before he knew I ditched :)
I've been shampoo/conditioner free since the first Monday in January. Going great for me. I haven't had the itchy scalp yet. I'm trying to still find the right balance of baking soda and vinegar. I use two heaping teaspoon scoops of baking soda and get a nice slightly runny paste going, scrub it in my hair and use a wide tooth comb to go through it.
Then I follow with a apple cider vinegar/water mix (12oz water, 2 oz vinegar). I was using just a little and mostly on the ends, but I think with my super thick hair, I need more. So I've been trying that this week and I think its better. I might have my mixture too watery though.
Overall I'm very happy. I can easily go two days and sometimes three between washes.
Well, currently with regular shampoo I only wash my hair on days that I workout, so I know I won't wash my hair any less frequently. But anyway, I hope to get started soon. I really need to get out and get myself a bottle to use in the shower. I have scoured the house and I really don't have anything I can use right now!
Sadly I tried it right after your initial post. I held out for about three weeks. My hair was greasy looking all the time, no matter how much baking soda I would use. Even when I was washing it everyday. So I switched to once every other day and that didnt help at all. I have very fine and very oily hair and we also have fairly hard water too. So that probably doesnt help. I just couldnt take it anymore so I am washing every other day now with an organic and all natural clarifying shampoo. Honestly my hair has been amazing since I started with the shampoo again. Its soft, shiny, and manageable. Maybe I am just not cut out for No-Poo. I plan to give it another try in the summer when I am not working. I just cant go to work daily with what is clearly unwashed hair.
