Newborn Photo Shoot

I tried my hand at taking some newborn photos of Nora the other day.  I got a few good ones, which is I suppose all you need, right?  I think this is out of about 150 or so photos.  She was a very good sport!

Holland, or Atlanta?

MWAC: 6 month portraits

Today Joseph and I went down to our local park for some photos to celebrate his reaching the ripe old age of 6 months. I know it's considered obligatory to get professional photography, but when you are a MWAC like me, who needs them?! Ok, so I'm not exactly and MWAC in the sense that I don't charge and I just photograph my own child. I just think the example sentence in that entry is hilarious!

Anyway, I'm still going through all 547 photos (eek!) but here are a few - or 12 - of my favorites so far. They are all straight from the camera - no editing!

Photography Final

I think I've told you before about my photography 101 class. I started class when Joseph turned 6 weeks old, and it's been a great way for me to get out once a week for a couple of hours, as well as nice one-on-one time for T.J. and Joseph.

My "final" is tonight, and here are the pictures I'll be using.

Photography class

When February hit this year and I realized that Joseph's birth was imminent, I decided that I'd better find something to do with myself at least once a week that did not involve him to give my mind and my arms a break. Since someone had to take care of him, that meant no T.J. either. Left to my own devices and with some help from local friends, I found a fantastic photography course.

T.J. and I had purchased a digital SLR camera around Christmas time, but I'd never really taken it off of auto. If anyone knows photography, they know that it's complicated! It was really overwhelming to read about, so a class made perfect sense. I've had 3 sessions now, and I'm well on my way to understanding the basics of photography. So far we've learned about aperture, shutter speed, ISO, metering, and composition. I have to admit, I didn't think learning to use the camera would require quite so much thought! It's sort of a bummer that there are so many elements to taking a great picture, but I guess that's what makes it interesting as well, right?

So, if you notice a change in the quality of photographs on here, it might just be that I set the camera to manual and tried my best. :)

Smugmug Downloads

In addition to purchasing photos directly from Smugmug, you can also download pictures to your computer in their original size! This is (in my opinion) the best part about Smugmug.

If you want to download a picture, simply select the picture you want so it's showing in the big view space on the right, then put your cursor over the picture to enable the toolbar on the right to pop up. Select "Original" from the picture size menu. This will pull up a (generally enormous) picture. Once it loads, right click the picture, and select "Save image as" - then you can save it to your computer.

Smugmug RSS Feeds

In case you are wondering, all of our pictures are now being put onto our smugmug pages:

If you have RSS subscriptions (like through Google Reader), you can get automatic updates by scrolling to the bottom of that page above, and clicking on "available feeds" next to little orange RSS button.

Once you click that, you can choose either "Recent Galleries" or "Recent Photos". I highly recommend choosing the gallery option, or you'll get an update for every photo we upload. I'll try not to go back and add new photos to existing galleries if I can help it.

If you don't have/don't want to use the RSS feeds, but what to be notified when there is an update, leave a comment to this post or email me at jenmonn at gmail dot com and I will add you to a listserve and I'll update you when new photos are added.

Picture updates
