Snuggly Baby

I have photos and video to upload for you, but for now just imagine a snuggly little baby taking up one arm. He's starting to do the little monkey clutch when I hold him. I'm sure eventually I'll wish he wasn't hanging on me, but right now it's lovely.

Uploading will have to wait till he's done. Sorry!

Autie Debbie is here!

And she and Joseph are the best of pals already! He loves being with her - probably because she tells him lots of stories and sings him funny songs! I am taking good notes so that I can interact better with him, myself.

If she wasn't a librarian, I'd suggest being my nanny instead! We may kidnap her as it is - yesterday Joseph slept from 3pm through the night until 8am waking only to eat and get diaper changes. It was amazing!

I know, I know, I'll have pictures to come! We've been painting the old apartment, unpacking, and getting utilities switched over the last few days. Be patient with us, things will settle down sooner or later, right? Right??? :)

Joseph is 6 Weeks Old!

We've been very busy this past week. We moved and T.J. got his wisdom teeth out, so things have been hectic, to say the least! I'll try to get back up to date though.

Finally, some photos from the last week or so! You can view all of them here

Cloth diaper confession.

I've been putting Joseph's diapers on inside out for 5 weeks. Yes, you read that right. I always thought they looked a bit funny, especially the blue one, which was blue on the inside instead of the outside. I just figured that it was some sort of manufacturing error (It's a "Seconds" diaper). Luckily it doesn't really affect the functionality.
In my defense, they apparently put the tag on the outside, and I'd basically been using the tag as the way to figure out if it was the inside or outside.

Joseph is 5 weeks old!

We took him to the pediatritian today for his 1 month check-up, and here are his stats:

Weight: 9lb 12.5oz (42%)
Height: 22.5" (76%)
Head circumference: (20%)

So we have a long skinny baby with a bitty head... I'd say he's the spitting image of T.J.! ::giggle:: The percentiles are basically only used to see if he continues to grow at a similar pace. So if we went next month and he was only 20% for weight, the doc would be concerned because he wasn't following his own growth curve. I'm happy to see that he's in "normal" ranges for weight and height - it means that he's eating plenty and I'm doing my job there.

In other news, we totally messed up with our insurance and it turns out that they don't take the insurance we had him on in March. So we need to switch it going forward. Not a problem, but we're paying the price ($450) for overlooking this. Oh well. As anyone who knows me can attest, I don't learn inexpensive lessons!

It wasn't gas!

We have been enjoying fleeting smiles over the last day. They are rare, and often crumple into frowns (I think he's still learning how to use the muscles) but they are REAL!

This morning we got a bunch and some coos, too, while we played Joseph and Mama's favorite game: "Kisses for Mama!" It is a very fun game, consisting of me kissing Joseph and then exclaiming "OH! Kisses for Mama!" over and over. Sometimes we do butterfly kisses and eskimo kisses, too. It is very exciting.

On another note, I am posting this from our new apartment! We're moving a few things in today to get a jump on unpacking, and someone has an open network. Yey! It only seems to work from the kitchen so far, but I'll take it for now until we get our utilities set

Joseph is 1 month old!

Actually, he's one month and one day, give me a pass - it's been quite a week!

Yesterday was pretty crazy - I think I'm coming down with some moving-stress induced baby blues. Between trying to pack and take care of Joseph, and T.J.'s long work schedule and recent sinus cold, things are piling up a bit. Luckily I have reinforcements coming over the next week to do some baby-holding while we pack!

Joseph and I did lots of nice things together - we played on the bed and I sang him silly songs while I showered, but we also cried together out of tiredness and frustration. We can't wait till next weekend when moving is done! Then we'll just have to devise ways to get Daddy home early - I'm thinking of kidnapping the guy that he is working for that always stops by T.J.'s office at 5:35. Just kidding... sorta.

Anyway, things are much better today, thanks to "Things Joseph can do now" (see #2 below!):

1. almost fool me into believing he's smiling at me (I think it's still just gas)
2. sleep for a four hour stretch (!!!) without eating - he did it last night!
3. hold his head up for quite a while when held upright on our shoulders, and turn his head when laying on his tummy.
4. follow objects with his eyes and head

I did take pictures yesterday, but haven't had time to upload them because of the moving stuff. I'll try to get them up this weekend!

We are off to a lecture this afternoon by Dr. McKenna (uber famous ND anthropology professor and preeminent researcher and proponent of the family bed). More about that later!

We're moving!

Yup, Joseph's getting a new place to hang out! We're actually moving back to our old apartment complex, which is more centrally located and on the train line! So we can keep our good ol' 2-door Focus Hatchback without getting a new car, which was a big priority for us. I know it's weird to most people that we only want/have one car, but it works for us - for now! We like that it minimizes our impact on the environment, though sooner or later we'll have to bite the bullet, we're glad to put it off.

T.J. will commute on the train again, so Joseph and I won't have to take him to work every morning (though we might sometimes to give him a treat).

As most of you know, I love floor plans, so here's a picture of our new place (you can click on it to make it larger):

We love that it has a deck, windows on 2 sides for a cross-breeze, a fireplace (!) and a bigger kitchen than we have now. It's actually pretty close in size (at 1273 sq ft) to what we're in, so moving everything shouldn't be too hard.

Now we just need to figure out how to pack and paint with a 4 week old who doesn't like to be put down! I think I'll be getting awfully proficient at using our baby carriers in the coming weeks.

We pick up our keyes on Saturday!

Smugmug Downloads

In addition to purchasing photos directly from Smugmug, you can also download pictures to your computer in their original size! This is (in my opinion) the best part about Smugmug.

If you want to download a picture, simply select the picture you want so it's showing in the big view space on the right, then put your cursor over the picture to enable the toolbar on the right to pop up. Select "Original" from the picture size menu. This will pull up a (generally enormous) picture. Once it loads, right click the picture, and select "Save image as" - then you can save it to your computer.

Hope this proves useful for some of you!

Fashion Show

Joseph is growing like a weed. We knew from the time he was born that we were on borrowed time with lots of his clothes. And we were right - we've already put away all his newborn sized clothes, and lots of his 0-3 month sized clothes!

Luckily, I was able to squeeze him into the adorable sweater and hat set that T.J.'s Godmother, Marilyn, made for Joseph. Unfortunately, he's a little big for it; his feet were too big for the booties! Maybe our next baby will be smaller?

Without Further Ado:

"I am not so sure about this outfit. Let me think about it"
"I am sure... sure that I'm going to make a big fuss!""Well, it's not so bad when I have my soothie"
"What up, Gangsta? Call me Li'l Cool J"
"I'm too cute for words!"

Smugmug RSS Feeds

In case you are wondering, all of our pictures are now being put onto our smugmug pages:

http://domerbaby.smugmug.com

If you have RSS subscriptions (like through Google Reader), you can get automatic updates by scrolling to the bottom of that page above, and clicking on "available feeds" next to little orange RSS button.

Once you click that, you can choose either "Recent Galleries" or "Recent Photos". I highly recommend choosing the gallery option, or you'll get an update for every photo we upload. I'll try not to go back and add new photos to existing galleries if I can help it.

If you don't have/don't want to use the RSS feeds, but what to be notified when there is an update, leave a comment to this post or email me at jenmonn at gmail dot com and I will add you to a listserve and I'll update you when new photos are added.

Happy looking!

Wooly Bully

Cloth diapering is coming along nicely, and I finally lanolized the wool covers last weekend that Teresa made for Joseph. The small one fits him quite nicely, and it really does the job! It seems a lot more comfortable for him, and more trim than his PUL covers. Plus he's uber cute in it, and it helps his bum breathe!

Chillin' on the changing pad
"Ah, wool is so comfy!""OK, I think that's enough for today, Mom.""What are you, the paparazzi???"
"Fine, one more uber cute picture, but then we eat!"

Another visit from Grandparents!

Boy is Joseph lucky! He had visitors two weeks in a row! Mommy and Daddy were happy for the break, as well. Grandpa C brought the piece de resistance - Joseph's crib! (pictures to come once we set it up!) They also brought lots of things from our shower in Pittsburgh we had in December, and Grandma C had a whole cooler full of freezer meals!

Here are some pictures from their visit:
